Horse-Angels Adoption Horses

Feel free to contact us at any time with any questions you may have on these wonderful horses.  We would be happy to help you with your decision.

Once you have selected a horse to adopt, just fill out our application form, and fax it (812-876-0721) or email it to us!

Also, if you are interested in finding a horse and do not see the "right one" on this web site, please contact us as we often know of more horses in need that are not physically at Horse-Angels Ranch.

 Amish

Amish is affectionate and has good manners. She came to us with a severe wound on her left hind foot that has taken nearly 3 years to resolve. She is fully functional now, but MUST have a farrier trim the left hind foot every 4 weeks. Skipping this will un-do her progress, so adopter must commit to follow through forever with monthly trims. Amish learns quickly and is started under saddle; but she needs further training, so she needs a knowledgeable owner that can teach her. She is quiet tempered and will make a great trail horse!  Also, she is gaited!

Size: 15hh
Age:  6 yrs, Born 2002
Gender: Mare/Female
Breed: Tennessee Walker/gaited

 Annie

Annie is a 18 year old, registered Quarter Horse.  She has had some problems with laminitis and requires special shoes, but is now doing great!  Possibly available for adoption in the spring, she will have the stipulation of continuing to have her feet cared for by our farrier (Darrin Griffith); therefore, only local adoption will be available.  (*Note:  Her foot care would cost approximately $200 every 8 weeks.)  She is safe for children and has shown in Western Pleasure (eligible for AQHA shows!). She cannot be bred, as her laminitis will flare up with pregnancy and she could not carry to term.

Size: 15hh
Age:  19 yrs, Born 1989
Gender: Mare/Female
Breed: Quarter Horse

Astro   Astro is another new arrival (April 2008).  He is a 8 year old gelding, and is also ride-able!

Size: 14hh
Age:  8 yrs, Born 2000
Gender: Gelding/Male
Breed: Paint
 Dallas

Dallas is a 12 year old Quarter Horse gelding that has early arthritis in his front left “knee”. He has a slight limp but enjoys being ridden, and will have 4 or 5 years of comfortable riding before his arthritic leg limits him. He has been trained by a Parelli trainer, has been a lesson horse, and is good with children. Dallas will be giving lessons at Horse-Angels until the right adopter comes along for him.

Size:  14.3hh
Age: 13 yrs old, Born 1995
Gender: Gelding/Male
Breed: Quarter Horse

 Dove

Dove is a cremello colored mare, who came to the rescue pregnant in December 2007. She has some behavior problems and has apparently been badly mishandled. She will most likely take a year of gaining trust and training before she is adoptable, unless adopters are very experienced.

Size:  15.1hh
Age: Approximately 15 years old; approximately born 1993
Gender: Mare/Female
Breed: Unknown

 Dove and filly

Dove had a palomino filly, April 2008!  Help us name the baby!

Read our news section for more info.

 Holly

Holly has had some hard times, but is now as normal as ever! She was rejected by her mother, and later hurt by dogs (which required 6 weeks of healing). All that occurred in her first 4 months of life! Now she is an outgoing and affectionate 2 year old.  Both her parents are well-known reining Quarter Horse bloodlines, and Holly is registered.  She is going to remain very small, and at full growth will still probably qualify as a Quarter Pony (under 56" tall). She has good manners and loads in trailers and stands for the farrier, but has had no training under saddle; for this reason, she needs an experienced horseperson that knows how to train horses, or she needs to spend time with a small-sized professional trainer.

Size: Small / up to 14hh
Age: 3 yr old, Born 2005
Gender: Mare/Female
Breed: Quarter Horse

 Know Me

Know Me is a yearling Tennessee Walker filly (not papered) that arrived in October 2007.  She had had no training or handling prior to our meeting, but is now very good at halter and very smart!  She is a fast learner that is eager to please, and will be up for adoption.  Her training will continue until she is adopted.  Know Me is gaited!

Size: 14 hh & growing!
Age: 2 yr old, Born 2006
Gender: Filly/Female
Breed:  Tennessee Walker/Gaited

 Latino Louie

Latino Louie is a 2 yr old Quarter Horse gelding that has had lots of ground work and is also going under saddle well. Louie had a disease called EPM and he is over it now, but has still not regained complete coordination in his rear legs. Many young horses do return to normal over time after EPM, but it is not known whether Louie will or not. In his current condition, Louie can be ridden at a walk and trot, but stumbles at a canter. He is loving and gentle, and gets along well with other horses.  Although he may be able to do trails after further healing, anyone adopting Louie should expect that he should only be ridden in flat fields or arenas. He would be good for a first horse because of his gentle nature, and may be able to give walk-trot lessons in an arena or round pen.

Size: 14.0hh and growing!
Age: 3 yr old, Born 2005
Gender: Gelding/Male
Breed:  Quarter Horse

 Little Joe

Little Joe is 3 years old this spring. He came to us a year ago as a 2 year old stallion. His story is that he had been struck by lightening while nursing his mother as a 4 mo old. His mother was killed, and Joe lost an eye. He also lost his hearing and his balance for several months, but that has returned and he is normal except for missing an eye. He has been handled and loved (had kind owners before he was turned over to Horse-Angels Rescue), and is very affectionate. He can be trained to be a good trail horse as long as his owner understands how horses with one eye get along. He must have someone with horse knowledge that will let him have enough rein to turn his head far to the right to look at things on that side with his left eye. He will remain small- 14.1 hands- so his rider should be 150# or less. Other than the eye, he is a normal, beautiful, young gelding.

Size: 14.1hh
Age: 4 yr old, Born 2004
Gender: Gelding/Male
Breed:  Paint

 *FOSTERED* Polly

*FOSTERED* Polly is a pregnant mare, rescued December 2007.  She has large gray patches that are hard to see in winter hair coat.  Sweet, but we are unsure about training at this time.

Her foal has arrived!  Read our news section  for more info.

Size:  14hh
Age:  Approximately 5 yrs old; approximately born 2003
Gender: Mare/Female
Breed: Paint

 Reba Sue

Reba Sue is a 3 year old mare.  She is very sweet, gentle, and calm!   Learns quickly and eagerly. Is halter broken and stands great for farrier, but has not had other groundwork so will need saddle training. Gets along well with horses and people.

Size: 15 hh and still growing!
Age: 3 years; born 2005
Gender: Mare/Female
Breed: Thoroughbred/Standardbred/mix (unknown)

 *ADOPTION PENDING*Stewart

*ADOPTION PENDING* Stewart has apparently been handled, blanketed in winter blankets, hauled in trailers, etc., because he accepts those things easily and does not need haltered to put on a blanket in the pasture. We suspect he has good riding skills, but do not have someone experienced that is small enough  to try him.

Size:  10 hh
Age:  Approximately 8 yrs old, born approximately 2000
Gender: Mare/Female
Breed: Pony

*FOSTERED* Velvet  *FOSTERED* Velvet is a pregnant mare, rescued December 2007.  Sweet, but we are unsure about training at this time.
