PURPOSE of certification: To familiarize volunteers with horse anatomy, psychology and safe handling at a beginner level. After completing Level One, volunteers will be able to groom horses, tie a horse for bathing, walk horses and take them outside to graze.

                            8)Leading
                            9)Backing and maneuvering
10)Grooming tools and how to use them
                            11)Bathing

Level One is required before advancing to Level Two (ground work and exercising the horse). We realize that many volunteers have extensive horse experience; however, Level One is still required to assure that all volunteers are consistent in their handling. Rescue horses have known cruelty and inconsistency from their past humans. We achieve trust and relaxation in these horses when they know that every human speaks the same firm but loving language. Training all volunteers to use the same methods builds confidence in unsure horses.
